FAQs
Q: Are non-members allowed to play at Pickled?
A: Yes. All players are members of Pickled. Every player has at least a "Stowaway" membership and has access to our reservation system called CourtReserve. The Stowaway membership is a free monthly plan. Stowaway members receive no discounts on open play fees and reservation rates. They also do not receive discounts on drills, classes, club events, and pro shop items. Lastly, they are limited to booking courts 24 hours in advance.
Q: I heard there are no initiation or registration fees. Is that true?
A: Yes. 👍 You can join without initiation fees and cancel your membership whenever you want. Treat it like a Netflix subscription. However, there are no refunds on your remaining time until the next renewal. We know players travel between seasons, so we wanted to make cancelation easy without a long-term commitment.
Q: Why are there Summer and Winter membership plans?
A: This may come as a shock... but we 💖 to play pickleball outdoors too! We understand that taking advantage of the Chicagoland summer is super important. So, our summer plans are priced differently. That means club access is cheaper in the summer and more expensive in the winter.
Q: When are the Summer vs. Winter plans effective?
A: Our summer season is from May 1st through September 30th. The winter season is from October 1st through April 30th. But Chicago really only has two seasons: winter and construction. 😉
Q: What has changed since the Summer memberships ended?
A: The winter memberships have a slight price increase. In addition, the Summer Dill membership plan allowed members to register for free Open Play and court reservations before 4 PM on weekdays. We are still offering a similar plan in the winter called the Admiral. Check out the details above.
Q: What is the minimum amount of time I can book a court?
A: Thirty (30) minutes.
Q: What is the maximum amount of time I can book a court?
A: Two (2) hours.
Q: If I'm a Captain member, what happens when I book with a Stowaway or a player on a different membership plan?
A: Good question. When a court is booked with mixed membership plans, the cost to each player is determined by dividing the individual player’s hourly fee by the number of players on the court. For example, a one-hour reservation booked with four players who have the following memberships: two Captains, one Stowaway, and an Admiral will cost:

$4.50 ($18 ÷ 4 = $4.50) for each Captain

$8.00 ($36 ÷ 4 = $9.00) for the Stowaway

Free for the Admiral
Each member will be responsible for their portion of the court cost.
A minimum of $9 per player will be charged if all players on a reservation are Stowaways (even if there are six players per court). The CourtReserve app will calculate the cost for you because math is hard. And you'd rather spend that time playing pickleball. 😎
Q: How many courts can I book at the same time (concurrently)?
A: Stowaways can book one court at a time. All other members can book a maximum of two courts simultaneously. If you need more than two courts, please request a private party reservation here.
Q: What is a "Booking Window," and how does it work?
A: A booking window is the period of time your discounted rates apply. You can still reserve a court or participate in Open Play outside of the booking window, but you pay the Stowaway rates. For example, if you are a Beachcomber member and want to book a court on the weekend, you'll pay $36 per court/hour instead of $16.

Q: I'm a Beachcomber. Can I play Open Play on evenings and weekends?
A: Yes, and you pay the Stowaway rate ($12).

Q: Do you offer classes, lessons, and drills?
A: Yes, check them out here. Members get a discounted rate per class. Depending on the membership, it is quite a savings!
Q: Do you have leagues?

Q: So, what's the best plan for me?
A: If you play at Pickled more than twice a week, a membership is better for you. The best plan depends on when you anticipate playing. Beachcomber plans are designed for stay-at-home parents and retirees, who can play before 6 PM on weekdays. The Captain is best for you if you anticipate playing during the evenings and weekends. If you play more than four times a week, then you're an addict, and the Admiral is best for you!
Q: Why are there no "Standard" time and "Prime" time rates?
A: Actually, there are different rates for different times. The rates are built into the membership plans, like the Beachcomber (discounts before 6 PM and weekdays) and the Captain (discounts any time) plans. We've had standard vs. prime time rates in the past, but the players did not like them, and it caused confusion and complexity. We keep it simple while catering to daytime and evening/weekend members.
Q: What happened to the "Sunset Pickle" membership plan?
A: The Sunset Pickle membership was used as a loophole in the plans to access the club at our busiest times. It was unfair to the top-tier members (Admirals and Captains). So, that membership has been discontinued.
